Help Stacy with Earls recovery

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Meggen and I am Stacy’s sister. I am organizing some fundraising efforts to aid in Earls vet bills and what may become a long road to recovery.
On December 16th, in the very early hours, Stacy found her beloved imported Brabant stallion Earl pinned in the large hay manger. Earl was down on his left side, the weight of the manger was resting across his ribs. His neck was twisted up to the right, his nose pointing straight in the air and his head was trapped in the frame of the feeder. He was on deaths door and God only knows how long he had been trapped by the manager. It took well over an hour to cut him free and he was super weak. His respirations were shallow and fast. He was lathered in frothy sweat. He had a 2” puncture wound at his throat latch, just behind his right jaw. It went all the way to the spine and was dangerously close to a major artery.
The vet came out and started an IV on Earl and did x-rays which found a fracture at C-1. Arrangements were made to make a treacherous 3 hour trip to Tryon Equine Hospital for emergency equine veterinary services. It was a difficult and precarious decision as Earl was unstable. Once at Tryon, he was sedated and the various evaluations and treatments began. His prognosis was 50/50 and remains very guarded. Aside from the known C-1 fracture his C-2 was also fractured and the puncture wound went all the way to his spine putting him at risk for meningitis. He has a wound infection, pneumonia, rhabdomyolysis affecting his kidney function, and neurological effects including blindness in his right eye and some paralysis.
Earl has a long, uphill battle and will require months, if not years of treatments and therapy if he survives this ordeal. Andy and Stacy are committed to giving all they can to support him as long as he is willing to fight, and his quality of life is not in jeopardy. Only time, patience and continued care will tell what lies ahead for Earl.
As we all know, our fur babies are irreplaceable but vet services are super expensive and can greatly impact the decisions that we as their owners make in the care they receive . Please consider donating and help ease the financial burden this tragic accident has already incurred as well as the continued critical care Earl is receiving.
