So, the pandemic happened and I pretty much stayed safe. However, I got sick in August 2020 but none it was COVID related. I had 2 blood clots one in the left calf, one in the right lung, and I had viral pneumonia. I recovered from the pneumonia and the clot in the leg dissolved but I was still having some major breathing issues that my asthma and allergy doctor was treating me. However, in December I still wasn’t improving as I should so he referred me to a pulmonologist. So now in January 2021 I was doing the lab work and getting the tests done for the pulmonologist so still in the infancy stage of determining what was wrong with me, when I went down hard. I was rushed to the ER and later admitted in the hospital I was in roughly a week. I was diagnosed with another blood clot this time in the left lung. I was also diagnosed with interstitial lung disease and an autoimmune disease both are not curable but they are treatable. I am on continuos oxygen 24/7.
Insurance has covered a home unit and traveling oxygen tanks but that really doesn’t account for any true work, activities outside the house, or travel. The Portable Oxygen Compressors (POC) gives me the ability to go to work and more freedom to travel by car, air, and sea because it provides air on chargeable batteries. However, it’s not cheap and it isn’t covered by my insurance. Being that I’m on 2L continuous oxygen my choices are really limited to 2 POCs, one that lasts .9 hours and the other 2 hours. I’m trying to raise money to buy a POC for 2 hours so that I can have the ability to get back to working in the school and the freedom to travel outside the house and to get back to coaching and be with my students. The sooner I raise the money the sooner I can purchase the unit. The sooner I can try to get back some type of “normalcy” without trying to determine how many tanks I need to have on hand in order for me to go from point A to point B. Any amount would help. Or if you are in the medical supply business and have other suggestions I would like to hear about it.
