I am never one to ask for help. However, I am desperate. At a time of stress, discomfort, and need, I am asking for help from my friends, family, and peers. This is a huge 'out of my comfort zone' thing. But I am in desperate need of help to pay for my unexpected medical bills. As money was already tight before my injury, now money is even tighter.
For those of you that do not know :
On January 18,2020, I was in the gym, which is my favorite past time activity. It was leg day and I was deadlifting. While deadlifting, on my last set, I went to pull the weight up off the ground, which is when I felt and heard my left bicep go 'POP POP POP POP POP'. I dropped the weight and lost all strength in my arm. That's when I knew something extremely bad had happened and I immediately left the gym and went to the local emergency room. After 4 hours in the ER and x-rays, It was determined I ruptured my left bicep tendon and needed surgery. I was sent home in a sling and was told not to return to work until I met with a surgeon.
On January 21st, 2020, I met with an orthopedic surgeon for my pre-op surgery visit and to discuss surgery. I was told I would have surgery within the week and not to return to work or to my normal activities.
Thankfully I was able to get right in and on January 22nd, 2020, I had surgery on my left bicep to reattach the tendon to the radius bone. Surgery was scheduled to take 40 minutes but ended up being 2.5 hours due to my rupture being worse than expected. I was placed in a splint/cast for a week after my surgery, until my post-op appointment the following week. I was told to stay bed rest for 72 hours, do not return to work until my post-op appointment, and do not partake in physical activities.
On January 29th, I met with my surgeon for a post-op appointment. My splint was taken off and I was placed in a sling until I started my physical therapy. I was cleared to go back to work if I chose to, which I did with restrictions.
I started physical therapy on February 6th, 2020. I found out I will be in recovery / physical therapy for 10 weeks- 12 weeks. 20 weeks were recommended, however my medical insurance only covers 10 weeks.
I was issued an elbow brace which is what I will wear for the remainder of recovery. This elbow brace allows me to only extend my arm a desired amount, and it is set by my physical therapist.
I am scheduled to see my surgeon again March 3rd to make sure I am healing correctly.
With my numerous medical visits, my emergency room visit, my surgery, the costs included with surgery (anesthesia, etc), my elbow brace, and also now physical therapy, I have been receiving bills every other day. Thankfully, I do have medical insurance so a huge chunk of the medical expenses WERE covered. But there's a part that is not covered, that I am responsible paying for, which has set me farther into debt and I am struggling to pay.
I am asking for any help financially from my family and friends. I have seen many times people come together to help a loved one or a stranger. Any help would be appreciated and will be used to pay my medical fees that have accrued over the last month. Hopefully my good deeds that I haven given in the past, will be reciprocated.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
God Bless.
