Multiple cycles of chemotherapy treatments over the past 2 years, have taken their  toll on Sridhar’s body. Yet, Sridhar is not giving up!

Our beloved friend, Sridhar Srinivasan, is battling a very aggressive form of cancer. His family (wife and 3 kids) is under heavy financial duress, resulting from the medical expenses. Their lifelong savings, including funds set aside for their kids’ education, have been depleted.

We are helping the family raise $30,000 (approximately Indian Rs.20 Lakhs) for his treatment.

Backstory
All Sridhar has ever wanted is something each of us aspires to...a normal, peaceful ,healthy life and to provide comfortably for our families .

Straightforward, hardworking and quietly unassuming, rejoicing in life’s felicities but always ready to face its blows with courage and cheer, he has remained unchanged over the years.

Friendships that he forged in his school days at KV IIT (Chennai, India) have remained close to his heart and he has rarely missed an opportunity to meet up with old mates for he believes that “friends are for life”.

However, the normal, simple life that he wanted has repeatedly eluded him over the years. Every time, things felt comfortable and sorted, he would be blindsided– the sudden tragic loss of his first wife to a brain haemorrhage, a sight threatening disorder, permanent visual problems , loss of his beloved father after supporting him in a long battle against Parkinson’s disease...

Each time, Sridhar has picked himself up, dusted himself off and carried on the best he could. He met and married a wonderful girl Subha. With three great kids and a good job in Kuwait, for a few years life at last seemed settled and peaceful.

 And then a sucker punch and things started unravelling. He collapsed in 2015 and was diagnosed to have a thymoma (a rare cancer arising from the thymus gland). He underwent major surgery. Following this, he was forced to resign from his job in Kuwait and return to India. 

In 2018, unfortunately he was diagnosed with a recurrence of the cancer but now the thymoma had evolved into an aggressive malignant variant called a thymic carcinoma which had spread widely throughout his body. 

To make matters worse, the tumor also began to generate molecules (antibodies) that blocked nerve signalling leading to severe muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis). It became difficult for Sridhar to swallow, speak without slurring or breathe.


Costs
Sridhar has been battling this aggressive cancer with fortitude for the last 5 years going through surgery and multiple cycles of chemotherapy to control the disease as well as the muscle weakness.

The myasthenia has also been life threatening needing urgent hospital admission and treatment. 

The cost of chemotherapy, hospital admissions and investigations has been amounting to around 6 lakhs a year.

The depredations wrought by the cancer have made it difficult for him to go to work on a regular basis. With a wife and three young kids to support , life has been hard physically,  emotionally and financially for Sridhar. He has drawn on all his resources including his savings thereby placing him in significant financial duress.

However, as always, he has remained upbeat, trying to see the silver lining in the dark clouds looming over him and the family.

Sridhar needs to continue with treatment to stay alive, battle the cancer and  the myasthenia and watch his kids grow but financial constraints are making it difficult for him to do so.

We are a small group of schoolmates who have known Sridhar since our high-school days together at KV IIT, Chennai, India . We have supported  him physically, emotionally and financially in his fight against the cancer for the last 2 years and would like to continue to help him.

However, we have reached a point where more financial help is needed in order for him to carry on with treatment.
