From Bhante Kusala — 1st December ️
My name is Bhante Kusala, a Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka, currently serving communities in Canada and the United States. I am raising funds to support families in Sri Lanka who have been devastated over the past few days by Hurricane Ditwa. I was born and raised on this island, and many of the affected regions include communities, temples, and families I have personally served throughout my life.
Hurricane Ditwa has destroyed homes, flooded entire villages, and left thousands without shelter, clothing, or basic necessities. Families who were preparing for a joyful Christmas season are now struggling simply to rebuild their lives.
How the funds will be used:
Every contribution to this GoFundMe will be used directly to provide:
• food and clean drinking water
• clothing for families who escaped with nothing
• sanitary pads and essential hygiene supplies
• medicine and basic medical support
• temporary shelter, mats, and sleeping needs
• school supplies for affected children
• support for repairing and rebuilding damaged homes and village structures
How the help will reach the families:
My brother, Venerable Hemananda, together with his teacher and a dedicated group of fellow monks, will coordinate the distribution on the ground in Sri Lanka. They are already in contact with the most affected villages and will personally ensure that your donations reach families in genuine need. Their presence, trustworthiness, and direct connection to the community make it possible to help quickly and transparently.
Updates, photos, and receipts will be provided for full accountability.
Sri Lankans are resilient, but the needs at this moment are urgent. Even a small offering becomes a lifeline for someone who has lost everything.
With gratitude, compassion, and unwavering faith in our island’s strength.
❤
