Help Srey and Kai Rebuild Skai Coffee

We are Srey and Kai Khoy, the husband and wife team (married 20 years!) behind the cutest mobile coffee shop known as Skai Coffee in Downtown Burbank.
We are all about good-natured fun while providing a high-quality product and friendly, excellent service. You’ll often find two of our four children working with us as well.
We are part of the Downtown Burbank Cultural Market, a bustling night market featuring unique finds and talented creators. You’ll find us there every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This market has grown to become one of the main attractions of Burbank, providing opportunities for small businesses to thrive.
Our 1975 trailer was part of this market, the lights, music, and fun vibe a beacon for those looking for something to do on a Friday night. Many people grabbed a coffee with friends before heading to the nearby AMC theater or dinner at Finney's Crafthouse.
When we weren’t at the market, we used our trailer for outdoor and private events, including a Halloween party at West Coast Customs one year.
It was always a great conversation starter, and we enjoyed telling others how we transformed it into a mobile coffee shop. Srey proudly shared the smart ways Kai had figured out how to attach the shelving and curtains.
It provided a source of revenue for our business, allowing us a bit of breathing room to support our family. We had plans to paint the trailer with custom artwork and to upgrade the trailer and equipment to accommodate larger parties.
Unfortunately, those dreams and plans disappeared in an instant.
On Friday, January 31st, at three in the morning, our coffee trailer was stolen from our driveway. Kai had been doing some repairs on it the day before and secured it as usual.
We were shocked, angry, and heartbroken to discover the theft the next morning. The thieves had planned this, had learned our routines, and executed this in thirty seconds. Unfortunately, our cameras didn't catch any identifying information.
All the work we had put into this vital part of our business was gone.
This coffee business is all we do to provide for our family.
We were already struggling due to the effect of the LA fires. We hadn't been able to work for two weeks, so financially things were already tough. We estimated it would take us another six months to a year to save up enough to replace the equipment we'd lost and to get another trailer.
Luckily, Kai had removed our espresso machine and generator from the trailer during his repairs, so they weren't able to shut down our business.
When we shared the news on Instagram, we were given so much love, empathy, and kindness. Many also came to visit us at the market to check on us.
We had no idea we were cared for like this. It was so humbling.
We are sharing our story with you because our community has convinced us this GoFundMe is the right thing to do, to help us right a wrong that was committed against us.
The funds will be used to buy another trailer or truck and replace the equipment we lost.
So often in life, we are helpless to do anything in the face of injustice.
But not today.
Would you be part of our comeback story?
Would you help us fight this injustice?
This was not an easy decision for us because we know so many of you are also dealing with various things. (Our reluctance was also due to growing up in traditional Asian households as well, where it was frowned upon to ask for help.)
Fortunately, the struggles of entrepreneurship have taught us so much: to accept help with gratitude, to embrace vulnerability, and to accept our own limitations while consistently striving to improve.
If you choose to support us, you have our heartfelt thanks. This means more than you’ll ever know.
If you're not in a position to help financially and would still like to support us, would you share our story with others? We truly believe those who are meant to give will find us.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
May you feel seen, heard, and loved today.
