Spunky Boy is an 8 year old Yorkshire Terrier who was recently diagnosed with a severe pulmonic stenosis, a congenital heart defect and is in need of a Balloon Valvuloplasty. Spunky spent the first 8 years of his life as a commercial breeding dog in a cage that was likely only 6 inches taller and 6 inches longer than his body. He was rescued from this situation by National Mill Dog Rescue where he was diagnosed with a grade 4 heart murmur. When we adopted him a couple of months ago, our veterinarian confirmed the heart murmur and we were referred to a cardiologist who was able to make the final diagnosis.
Spunky Boy will have to travel from Colorado Springs to Colorado State University's Veterinary Cardiology Department in Fort Collins for this surgery. The cost of the surgery will be between $5600 and $6600 so we will need to cover that as well as lodging for us for four nights which will be about $700. The entire procedure will take 3 days. Day one will be spent on pre-op testing, day two will be the surgery and the third day he should be discharged to come home. We will stay in Fort Collins for an extra day to allow him to recover a bit more before making the long drive home.
Our family greatly appreciates any help you can provide us during this time. We are committed to giving Spunky Boy the best life possible. His first 8 years were horrible and he deserves the absolute best care we can provide.
Any funds not used for Spunky will be donated to National Mill Dog Rescue's Healing Hearts Fund to help them offset the cost of veterinary care for their rescues.
