Help Spuds Overcome Negligent Abuse

Donation protected
This is Lucky, who wasn't so lucky when he was adopted. He was renamed Macho which, is the complete opposite of what he has become. His new name is Spuds, who is  safe and in loving hands, with Kara Collins as he starts his new life.

Spuds owner surrendered this poor baby who had a horrible life in his short 2 years. He was adopted from a shelter at about 1 yrs old and for the next year he was bounced back and forth between homes, all the while being neglected. He weighed 50 lbs at adoption and now weighs a measly 33 lbs.  His fur is stained from urine, his nails were curling under his paws, his teeth are black, his paw pads are pink from lack of walks and yet, he is the sweetest boy.

There was no way we could let him live another day in neglect.  We took him to Blue Pearl Emergency Vet for his first checkup, in a year! Results showed, he is dehydrated, anemic, has elevated liver enzymes and obviously, suffering from malnutrition.  He was prescribed with Pancur for parasite prevention and Metronidazola for his diarrhea.  He is currently doing well, in Kara's care, eating his bland rice and chicken diet, along with his medications, which have already improved his stool.

Amazingly, Spuds trusts people and children, loves affection, and gets along with dogs of all sizes. He walks very nicely on leash and has had no problem getting into the crate and getting comfortable. We have learned he likes to run on leash and understandably has a huge curiosity for everything around him.  Once he is healthier, he will be trained by a professional.

We, gratefully, have a committed foster and working to find a  rescue who can help us find  him a forever home.   In addition, Olney Sandy Spring Veterinary, In Olney, MD has graciously agreed to help him, at a discount, with his future medical needs. He will have an appointment on July 17 for a thorough exam.  His first visit to the ER totaled  $723.00. We know he will need dental work before a bacteria, reaches his heart and kills him. An abdominal ultrasound was discussed, and a UTI infection is highly probable from his peeing patterns. We will know more after his 2nd vet visit.

While OSSV is offering a discount, we know his medical bills will add up. Any help we can receive to keep his life going, in the right direction, will be a blessing for him. All monies will go for his medical treatment.

He has a long road  ahead of him, but he is safe now and will never be neglected again. With your help, we are going to heal him and find him the best, forever family. A family that will love, spoil, exercise and make sure his every need is taken care of,  forever.
