Help Save Spud!

Meet Spud Yerkes, the sweetest kitty with the biggest heart. Four years ago, Spud was found trapped in a fence near the Tulane football practice field by McKenzie Yerkes. It was love at first sight. She brought him to the SPCA and called every single day until she could bring him home for good. Since then, they’ve been inseparable.

Now, McKenzie is a dedicated PA student, working hard to achieve her dreams with Spud as her loyal study buddy. But this week, Spud suddenly fell ill. After vomiting multiple times—something that had only happened once before—McKenzie knew something was wrong. She rushed him to the vet, where he received fluids and anti-nausea medication, hoping he’d improve.

Unfortunately, Spud’s condition worsened. By Thursday, he was back at the vet for X-rays, but nothing obvious was found. Then, today, things took a turn for the worse. Trusting her instincts, McKenzie dropped everything and rushed Spud to the emergency vet. After 10+ hours, multiple labs, an ultrasound, and visits to two hospitals, they finally had an answer: Spud had a linear foreign body and needed emergency surgery.

McKenzie is doing everything she can to save her boy, but as a full-time student, she is unable to work, and the medical costs are overwhelming. If you can donate anything to help, it would mean the world to her and Spud. Every little bit helps in giving Spud the care he desperately needs.
