Hi, my name is Robert Bushey, and I’m so proud to be part of this tremendous organization and cause.
The World Transplant Games, supported by the International Olympic Committee, represents the largest organ donor awareness event in the world, featuring a week of 17 sporting events and over 1,760 transplant athletes from 50 countries across the globe.
Us 1760+ transplant athletes will descend on Dresden, Germany, this August of 2025.
Being able to participate in this amazing, international event is incredibly exciting.
All of us organ transplant recipients participants (mine was a kidney transplant in 1999… 26 years ago - Wow!) have to self fund through campaigns like these. Being part of the Games (registration fees, flights, lodging, local transportation, food and expenses) amounts to circa £2,970 for just one person for the week.
My transplant was from someone who was so generous while they were alive, they signed up as an organ donor. The opportunity to help spread awareness of how important and truly life changing / life saving organ donation is, can’t be thoroughly express in words. Except, 29 years ago, when I first learned that both my kidneys were failing, I thought my life was over. The support I’ve received from my loving wife (Linny) has been incredible and unwavering from day one. Had I known about the World Transplant Games and what life could/would be like while I was on dialysis, it would have added so much more optimism to my outlook on life, I probably would have been unbearable ☺️!
I have set a target of £5,000 which is more than what I personally need (£2,970) to participate in the games. Here’s are my commitments to you.
I will:
- donate every penny above £2500 received to the World Transplant Games Charitable Foundation in all of our names.
- double my efforts to help spread the good word about organ donation.
- support current and future transplant recipients
- do my best to bring home the Gold!
Last bit. I am passionate about golf and pushed it to the side for far too many years. I find it the most competitive sport in the world; you’re always playing against yourself and even I’m if you win, you could have always done better. Ugh.. :-).
So that is my World Transplant Games Sport. I’ll be competing in the Singles event and the pairs (team) event
Thank you all in advance for contributing anything you’re able and if you’re not an Organ Donor, please consider it and the lives you could change.
I’m happy to talk to any potential donors any time and eager to speak with anyone facing the possibility or knowledge that they are in need of an Organ Transplant - there are so many reasons to be optimistic about the future. For yourself and your loved ones.
