Help Sponsor Family From Afghanistan - PART 2!
Donation protected
Hi! I am Jessica and I am a friend of the Shekib family.
The Shekib family is from Afghanistan. Their daughter Hosnia fled to Canada as a refugee in 2018, and I met her soon after she arrived. With the help of a very successful GoFundMe in 2023, we raised $12,000 to sponsor her mother, father, and two teen sisters to Canada. They arrived in July 2024.
A beautiful community emerged from our initial fundraising effort, and there is small dedicated group of people who are continuing to support the Shekib family to settle in Canada.
We as a group, are now fundraising to sponsor Hosnia's brother, sister-in-law, and their two young children to Canada. Hosnia's brother and sister-in-law are both physicians and have goals to work in the biomedical field.
The Shekib family is Hazara. The Hazara are an ethnic minority group who have been historically persecuted, and most recently targeted by the Taliban. Hosnia's remaining family fled to Pakistan in 2021 after the Taliban regained control over the country, where they now face forced deportation back to Afghanistan due to Pakistan's "Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan". They cannot work, their children cannot attend school, and their daughter will never be able to dream of becoming a physician like her parents, or to pursue any meaningful career path. Please help us to bring this hardworking and deserving family to Canada to be reunited with their loved ones.
Please see previous GoFundMe for details (we were blessed with a $5,000 private donation in addition to the funds raised on this platform) https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-sponsor-family-from-afghanistan?utm_medium=email&utm_source=product&utm_campaign=p_email%2Bhtml_summary_donations
As per GoFundMe's policies regarding fundraisers for individuals from Afghanistan, they require me to answer the following questions clearly:
1. Who you are and where you are from
My names is Jessica, I am a Canadian Citizen and live in British Columbia
2. Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for
I met Hosnia in 2018 when she arrived to Canada. I have met and continue to support her family who we sponsored to come to Canada in July 2024.
3. Your plan to send the funds to the intended recipients, and their names
The funds will be transferred to Hosnia who will place them in a separate savings account which will be used to make a private sponsorship application with MOSAIC.
4. How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible)
As per the sponsorship application process, the funds are raised to ensure that the sponsored family can support themselves over their first year in Canada. All funds raised will be returned to the family on a monthly basis to assist with this process, and will likely be used to help pay for rent, food, and personal necessities.
