Help sponsor a Syrian LGBT refugee to Canada

We are asking you to donate in the fundraising effort to bring P* to Canada. P* is a gay Syrian refugee currently in Beirut, and his safety is under threat. We are bringing him to Canada as a sponsored refugee, which costs about $12,000 CAD, or $9,500 USD. We need your help, and every dollar counts. Please note that your donation will be charged in Canadian dollars, so make your conversion accordingly.
Long version:
We’re bringing P* to Canada! In 2017, against the backdrop of the continuing war in Syria, P* was forced to flee from his home in Syria to Lebanon after his father, a well-connected man in the Syrian security services, learned that P* is gay. Unfortunately, the situation is not much better in Beirut, with continued threats to his safety and livelihood and ongoing challenges in the devastated city.
Through his time in Lebanon, P* enrolled in programs to learn coding, got a scholarship to enroll in a computer science degree from a US-based online university, and has worked hard to improve his English language skills. Unfortunately, being a gay Syrian in Lebanon means that he has not been able to get employed. This is compounded by fears for his personal safety, as he has had encounters with distant relatives in Lebanon delivering him personal threats from his father. P* cannot leave home because if he gets caught and deported to Syria, he will be immediately conscripted in the Syrian army, and forced to carry arms against his fellow Syrians, which he absolutely rejects.
We are bringing him to Canada through the private sponsorship program. For this, we need your support! The private sponsorship program requires us to fundraise $12,000 (Canadian, or approximately $9,500 US Dollars) to cover P*’s expenses as he settles in Canada in his first year of being here.
We are all existentially tired of hearing about the enormous human suffering caused by the crisis in Syria, but the crisis is continuing as we speak. We hope that in this season of giving, you will consider making a contribution to bringing P* to Canada to have a safe place to grow and thrive.
