Hi, friends! This is Jan, a wonderful father to three beautiful kids, Evan (11 yrs old), Liam (8 yrs old) and Nina (6 yrs old), with my friend Lorena Alban. Six weeks ago, Jan was driving home and suddenly had a seizure which caused him to have a car accident. He was rushed to the hospital where an MRI showed that he had a mass in his brain. After a battery of tests and subsequent brain surgery, it turns out that the mass is an incredibly aggressive Stage IV Glioblastoma. Prognoses for Glioblastomas are typically despairing, because of the brain cancer’s highly aggressive presentation. In Jan’s case, this is especially true. He lives in New York State and is receiving treatment at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. He started treatment, Thursday, June 27 and will have radiation each weekday for six weeks along with chemotherapy each night. The treatment is aggressive and debilitating. Here’s where you come in: this family needs help! Lorena and the kids live in Miami, and she has taken a leave of absence to spend the six weeks of treatment with the kids in NYC. As you know, New York is terribly expensive, but since Jan cannot work and they have a tremendous increase in living and medical expenses,
Lorena’s income is just not enough. They’ve received some housing support from the Bone Marrow Cancer Foundation. But they need more help to get through this process. In times of crises, we come together for those we know and those we don’t. I am asking you to please help my friends. Please give what you can. This is a terribly sad situation that shouldn’t be compounded with financial distress. Your support, your generosity will be eternally appreciated. My love to you all, Nannette
