Help Spike Keep Fighting
Our dog Spike is currently fighting for his life in the ICU.
What began as accidental exposure to high levels of THC triggered a devastating chain of medical complications.
While the initial incident involved THC, it’s the severe complications that followed — not the exposure itself — that Spike is battling now.
Spike had a mild pre-existing heart murmur, which he had been living with comfortably prior to this incident.
The stress from these complications has caused his heart condition to worsen, bringing him dangerously close to heart failure as his body continues to fight the resulting aspiration infection and systemic strain.
Aspiration is a critical and life-threatening condition that can rapidly lead to severe lung infection and respiratory failure, and it is a major reason Spike requires constant oxygen support, IV medications, cardiac monitoring, and continuous medical intervention.
Twice, doctors told us Spike wasn’t going to make it.
Twice, Spike proved them wrong.
His progress has been slow — but real. His breathing has improved, and he is now close to sustaining himself on room air (currently measuring 92% on room air and 99% with oxygen). Every day, even in small ways, Spike continues to show us that he still has fight left.
We have done everything we can to buy him time. However, Spike is still far from out of the woods, and continuing this fight will require ongoing care and support.
So far, we’ve exhausted $3,000 in savings and an additional $9,000 through SnapPay just to keep Spike receiving the care he needs. While many have told us it may be time to let go, Spike continues to improve day by day. Letting go while he’s still fighting and making progress doesn’t feel right to us.
Spike has been my constant, inseparable companion for nearly 12 years.
In 2024, when I was wheelchair-bound for most of the year, Spike never left my side — not even to eat. When I was fighting, he was fighting too.
Because of that bond, and because of the strength he continues to show, we are not ready to close his story this way.
If Spike still has fight left, we want to give him the chance to keep fighting.
Transparency Matters to Us
Any funds raised will go directly toward Spike’s ongoing emergency and recovery care. If his situation resolves with a remaining balance, all unused funds will be donated to a reputable animal rescue or veterinary charity, and we will provide proof of that donation after the fact.
We understand there is hesitation around online fundraisers. We wouldn’t be doing this if we had any other option. This is a real, rare, and deeply painful situation — and every dollar truly goes toward giving Spike the chance to keep fighting.
We will continue to post updates as Spike’s condition changes so donors can follow his progress in real time.
Any donation — no matter the size — helps us continue Spike’s care. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser means just as much.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us, believing in Spike, and helping us fight for more time with the dog who has given us everything.
