After six years of dedicated service in the Army, maintaining and flying on Blackhawk helicopters, Spenser is preparing to attend flight school for his commercial rotary license, while Molly is set to begin a new job in January. With their two dogs, Fiona and Murdoc, they packed up their lives and began the long drive south, full of hope for the future.

Just six hours out of Fairbanks, their plans took an unexpected turn when their car suddenly broke down. They managed to backtrack to Tok, Alaska, the last village before the Canadian border, only to discover that their car was completely totaled. While they are fortunate to have a second vehicle, it requires significant repairs before it can make the journey to Tennessee. The original budget they set aside for the trip has been exhausted by the cost of shelter, food, and the mounting car expenses, leaving them stranded and unsure how to move forward.

They need at least $15,000 to cover their motel bill, towing and selling the totaled car, repairs for their working car, and travel expenses to finally reach their new home. Traveling 4,000 miles with a toddler and two dogs is challenging enough under the best of circumstances, and this situation has become more than they can bear.
