Help Spencer Rebuild After Devastating Fire
Donation protected
Halli and I are raising funds to support our dear friend Spencer Kubo, whose life was unexpectedly upended yesterday May 12th after a sudden propane tank explosion damaged his apartment and destroyed many of his belongings. While thankfully (and most importantly) no one was hurt, the structural integrity of the apartment has been compromised, making it unlivable. This leaves Spencer without many of the basic essentials we all take for granted — a bed, blankets, clothing, toiletries, pots and pans, and so much more.
For those who don’t know him, Spencer is a second-year graduate student at the University of Maine, living on a modest stipend that makes everyday expenses a challenge — let alone recovering from a disaster like this. He now faces the overwhelming task of finding a new place to live, re-purchasing basic amenities, and figuring out how to move forward from this event.
On a personal note, Spencer is one of the kindest, most generous people you could ever meet. He’s the kind of person who offers help before you even ask, gives his time freely to others, and brings warmth, humor, and joy to every room he walks into. Spencer, Halli, and I immediately clicked, and you would often not see one without the other two. More than just my friend, Spencer and I were roommates and lived in this apartment together for a year, with Halli down the street, so this tragedy cuts deeply on more than just one level. Some of my most cherished memories in Maine were made together in that home — sharing meals, telling jokes, and wondering what silly animal he was going to bring into the house from his hunting or fishing excursions.
We’re setting a goal to raise at least $1,500 to help relieve some of the pressure that Spencer is undoubtedly feeling from this tragedy. Every dollar will go toward replacing critical items and helping him transition into a new living situation.
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing Spencer — or if you simply believe in helping good people through hard times — please consider donating or sharing this campaign. Let’s show Spencer the same love and support he’s shown to all of us.
With gratitude,
Kara and Halli
