Help Spencer get a wheelchair-accessible van.

Hi, My name is Marcia. I am raising money to buy a wheelchair-accessible van so my son Spencer can get back into the world. Spencer was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder when he was 14. Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia 11 is a rare recessive genetic disorder that has taken away Spencer's ability to walk, have a job and do many independent activities that most of us take for granted. As a 23-year-old man, he has become dependent on us for daily care. Everything in Spencer's life has been affected by his disability. A simple trip for a haircut is now a stress-filled activity due to the difficulty of getting in and out of the car.
We recently realized it was time for a safer option when we had to call 911 to help get Spencer up and into the house after falling while exiting the car. Car transfers have become so dangerous Spencer now avoids leaving the house. A wheelchair-accessible van would remove this barrier to going out into the community and give him the freedom to enjoy life outside of our home again.
Spencer's tall stature of 6'2" and his heavy-duty wheelchair size limit us to only a few van types due to the door entrance and interior van ceiling heights. This size requirement excludes many lower-cost vans and gives us a significant hurdle in obtaining a van that will accommodate his chair.
Please consider helping us in any way you can: donating money, sponsoring a fundraiser or sharing this page. We are so grateful for all the people who care about Spencer and thank you for considering helping us in this venture.
