Help Spencer and His Family Beat Cancer

Donation protected
We are reaching out to our community to support Spencer and the Dwyer family as they navigate his recent cancer diagnosis.

The money raised will go towards medical expenses, weekly travel to and from Portland for radiation and chemotherapy, and living expenses while Jillian and Wade take significant time off work to care for Spencer over the next 7 months of treatment.

We’ve been so humbled by so many people asking how they can help, and this is one big way to take financial pressure off the Dwyer family.

Donate if you can, and please share. We will also share a link for signing up for a meal train if making a meal is a more accessible way to help. ♥️

In Jillian’s words:
Last week our world was turned completely upside down as we received the news that is every parent's worst nightmare - your son has cancer. I still can't wrap my mind around it. Spencer was complaining of right side pain, so I took him into urgent care. They sent him to the ED to be evaluated for appendicitis. Instead of appendicitis, they found a mass on his kidney while doing the ultrasound. They sent us to Randall Children's Hospital in Portland, where we arrived around 10pm on Sunday the 7th. The next morning they ordered an MRI and confirmed our worst fear; Spencer had a tumor on his kidney. In less than 24 hours everything changed.
On Friday Spencer successfully underwent surgery to remove his right kidney and the attached tumor, plus the insertion of a port in his chest. He did incredible after surgery and has been such a trooper through this entire thing. After only 4 nights in the hospital Spencer was discharged and we are now all back together at home. As soon as Thanksgiving is over he will start radiation and months of chemotherapy. We are still waiting on final pathology, but at this time we know we are dealing with a Wilms tumor.
Words cannot express how terrifying, confusing, emotional and exhausting the last 10 days have been. They always say things can change in an instant, and I never realized just how true that was. Through everything, Spencer has been amazing. He is so brave, tough, strong, and truly our little superhero. Even in the midst of his worst pain, he was unfailingly polite to everyone around him. He kept joking and making everyone laugh with his silly one liners. He got up and moving soon after surgery, even when he didn't want to. The next day he was getting up all on his own and blowing everyone away with how fast he was improving. I am unbelievably proud of what a strong little guy he is.
Unfortunately Spencer will have to miss the rest of the school year. He will miss out on his upcoming soccer and basketball seasons. He will be sick through the holiday season. Cancer is so unfair. The journey ahead is going to be long and challenging, but Spencer is so tough and we are ready to beat this thing
