I'm editing today because a lot has changed since I initially started this fundraiser. I am now working with another lady in my town to go through all the colonies and get them spayed and neutered. I know this sounds like a huge unreachable goal but I believe with the help of all of you we can accomplish it. My friend has already taken care of hundreds of cats by trapping , spay/neuter and released back to their colonies. Now I am helping to pay for the ones she has been working on and joining her is going to make an incredible difference. I now need more than ever, help with donations and sharing. I update my fundraiser often and post new pictures of these beautiful animals.
I’m working on my own to care for what is now a colony of feral cats living around my home. Over the past two years, I’ve managed to get the original mother and father cats fixed, as well as one out of three kittens from their first litter, with help from the local shelter. Since then the female from the original litter of three and both female’s from the second litter of two were not spayed. In the beginning of July, the female from the first litter, and one female from the second litter had their first litter’s, the first one had two and the next one had three. In the end of August the second female, who I thought was a boy had a litter of four. I was able to get three of all the babies homed but the one’s from the first female are too feral so when they are of age I will be getting them spayed and or neutered.
Every month, I go through about 40 pounds of food, which with the new babies that are already too feral to get a home will surely increase, and make sure the cats have clean, cold water, especially during the extremely hot days. I’ve been able to trap and transport the cats for their procedures, and return them safely where I trap them. The main challenge now is covering the costs, since the shelter can’t help anymore.
Spaying and neutering these cats will help control the feral population, reduce the mess in yards and flower beds, and prevent the spread of packs to other neighborhoods. In some areas, there can be hundreds of feral cats, so every procedure makes a difference. Your support will help me continue this work and make our neighborhood a healthier, safer place for everyone.
Since the start of this fundraiser I’ve learned that although my entire life, I’ve enjoyed helping animals, whether it be pets or ones in the wild, helping these feral cats make me feel like I can actually make a difference in the lives of these beautiful animals. I once read somewhere that if animals in the wild such as these feral cats bring their babies around a persons home it’s because they trust them to help them and it’s been my honor and privilege to have been able to take care of all these cats and kittens over the past 2 years. I will not stop until each, and every one of the cats and kittens in this little colony are spayed neutered.
I’m happy to share that of the out of the 9 babies born this spring and summer 4 have been adopted, 2 are being worked with in hopes of getting a new home or becoming a barn cat and I have had one spayed as of now.
I greatly appreciate those of you who have been able to help and donate as well as sharing along this journey. For those of you just reading about this campaign I hope you choose to donate or share today.
I have known all these cats kittens since they were about three or four weeks old therefore, I have given them all names so that I am aware of who is here and who is not here to make sure they are all spayed and neutered with the ear clip and so if I notice anyone is missing, I can try to look around the neighborhood and see where they might be.
I thank you all so much in advance.
FYI: I do not provide the voice over or what it says. GoFundMe does it automatically and I can’t change the voice or what is says.
