Sparta is a beloved family pet and emotional support animal, and only surviving offspring of Racket and Dot. He has his "gimpy eye" - and we have finally got some answers from a vet! Imagine your lower eyelid folded in so your eyelashes were in your eye 24/7 - that is what is going on with Sparta and it is FIXABLE (!!!) with a minor surgery!!!
Please help us with the covering of this cost, every little bit matters to us and even more for Sparta!
A little history if you want to read it (TLDR; it's a birth defect):
Dot was a tiny feral outdoor cat at my parent's house, Racket was a friendly outdoor cat who got his name because he would not shut up - ever (always making a racket). All of Dot and Racket's kittens had deformities in their eyes, some more extreme than others. We were surprised Dot could even carry a litter because she was a tiny cat (Sparta is much larger than her and weighs in at 9 pounds).
I adopted Sparta when he was about a year and a half old, after he went missing (and was presumed dead). A friend/coworker showed me a picture of a stray at the shelter with a "gimpy eye" and how cute he was - and I swooped in on my mission to make him a fat contented housecat. His vet insisted his eye problem was viral and there was nothing that could be done until another vet covering her vacation last spring let me know what it was and how it could be fixed. I have now got a 2nd opinion from another vet confirming that surgery can correct his eye!
