Sourface was born amidst the passion for the enjoyment of our university life, but quickly became a serious endeavour as we went from our first show in the basement bar of the St Moritz Club to Hungary’s Golem Fesztival, releasing two EPs along the way and performing regularly between London and Paris with many sell-out nights at Le Truskel, The Victoria, Le Supersonic, and many others.
Sourface, pourtant né dans un big bang de rires, de passions et de l’atmopshère déjanté de la vie étudiante londonienne, est rapidement devenu une quête sérieuse. Après avoir sillonné les routes d’Europe, des caves de Londres au Golem fesztival en Hongrie, après avoir sorti deux EP, après avoir joué dans les prestigieux Camden Assembly, Supersonic et O2 Academy Islington, nous voici enfin arrivé à une nouvelle étape.
During these adventures over the past two years, we have been meticulously writing, refining and arranging our first full-length album. Fueled by the energy of live performance are 11 tracks which bring to life a full array of the young person’s experience in an entropic world, with all its brazen and unabashed energy. The music that has emerged from this we call “Tropical Punk”: the high-velocity twisting of rock, funk, psychedelia, and jazz, all converging inside a mysterious circus tent sat beneath a vibrant, pulsing sun.
En effet, durant tout ce temps-là et à travers toutes ces aventures, nous avons méticuleusement composé, raffiné et arrangé notre tout premier album. Très ambitieux musicalement et d’une nouveauté authentiquement subversive, notre petit bijou musical de 11 chansons a été surchargé par l’énergie de deux ans de performances live. c’est précisément ce que cet album dépeint ; cette même énergie juvénile électrifiée, cette entropie solaire, ce qui a été décrit comme du ‘punk tropical’ ; la collision frontale entre le rock, le funk, le psychédélique et le jazz.
With the writing complete, the time has finally come for us to bunker down in the studio and do these songs justice. The plan is straightforward: to spend the entirety of August in Tom’s garage on the outskirts of Paris recording music until the finish line is finally crossed. However, for us to be ready to record, we must first acquire some vital equipment, which is listed below:
Maintenant qu’il a été écrit, le temps est venu de l’enregistrer, mais ça n’est pas une mince affaire. On va s’enfermer durant tout le mois d’aout dans le garage de Tom dans la banlieue parisienne pour donner vie à cet album coute que coute. Mais il nous manque cependant le matériel suivant ;
4 microphone stands - £40

Carpeting (for soundproofing) - £60

New drum parts - £150
Upright piano tuning and maintenance - around £100-200
Fender Rhodes electric piano rental (10 days) - £700
Travel costs for sound engineer + volunteer session musicians - £200 + £70
Spurred on by the success of the last couple of years, our ambitions for this album are high, and we are ready for more: bigger venues, tours, and many more memorable nights on stage. To raise the money needed to get this project off the ground, we are playing a string of shows this Summer, including a big fundraising event at The Victoria pub on the 8th of July. With our most hopeful estimates for these revenues we will cover two-thirds of the total costs. However, your help and support will be vital for helping our project reach the heights it needs and deserves to reach full fruition. To be in the position to record is a milestone achievement, and we do not take it for granted; we are determined to create something fantastic. We will be hugely grateful for any donations and support you can offer us.
Propulsés par le succès de ces quelques dernières années, nos ambitions, vous l’aurez compris, sont très grandes. Nous sommes déterminés à aller toujours plus loin avec de plus grandes salles de concert, des tournées et bien plus. Afin de couvrir ces couts, nous allons jouer à de nombreuses reprises cet été, mais les revenues générés par ces concerts nous représenteront que deux tiers des couts totaux. C’est pour ça que l’on a besoin de vous. Si vous nous faites une donation, peu importe la taille, nous allons pouvoir enregistrer cet album au niveau de production que ces chansons méritent. Grâce à vous, nous allons pouvoir concrétiser ce projet et atteindre de nouveaux sommets par la suite.
