SOS Richmond faces a serious funding gap this month. In April, City Council approved over $700,000 in support for SOS in the coming year to pay for jobs, health and sanitation and progress towards permanent housing for our city's unsheltered residents.
But there’s a catch. The city funds are only paid as reimbursements. SOS has to spend the money first, then get reimbursed for it from the City. SOS lacks the spare cash to cover payroll for up to 35 staff members, buy gas to keep our shower power trailer on the road, and pay for countless essential supplies and expenses.
Our staff… 30 of them currently or recently homeless and struggling to rebuild their lives, are facing pay-less paydays. Many of them have rent to pay and children to feed. A missed payday could be a huge setback.
We need to raise $20,000 to keep our programs running until the city’s reimbursements kick in. You can help by donating to an emergency cash fund to keep our staff paid and vital services running.
Once the funding emergency is weathered and grant reimbursements pay for program expenses, we will set your contributions aside in an emergency reserve account ensuring smoother running far into the future.
SOS Richmond is a nonprofit dedicated to bringing housed and unhoused neighbors together delivering outreach, encampment services, jobs, and safe living spaces as solutions to homelessness.
Thank you for your generous and timely help!
Working together,
Safe Organized Spaces Richmond
