For more than 25 years, Brian Sorci and his wife Laurie have been part of the heart of Bakersfield Country Club. If you’ve spent any time at BCC, there’s a strong chance Brian has greeted you —If you’ve spent any time at BCC, chances are Brian has greeted you — and not the “polite nod from a distance” kind of greeting. Brian is the full-volume, bigger-than-life, smile-first kind of guy who makes you feel like you’ve known him forever (even if you just met him by the clubhouse.)
Brian didn’t just enjoy the club — he served it. He spent years on the Greens Committee (yes, he cared about the greens like they were family), and he was Captain of the BCC Men’s Golf Team for more than five years — which basically means he dedicated a meaningful portion of his life to golf logistics and friendly competitive chaos.
But Brian’s proudest role has always been husband and dad.
Many of us watched his sons, Aidan and Carson, grow up around BCC — practicing, playing tournaments, and putting in the kind of work that makes the rest of us feel guilty about our “I’m going to the range next week” plans. Both boys attended Garces High School, and their success is a direct reflection of the work ethic and character Brian and Laurie instilled in them. Today, Aidan is at Cal Poly SLO studying Biomedical Engineering, and Carson attends Dominican University San Rafael on a partial golf scholarship.
And if you know Laurie, you know she’s the kind of person who makes any room better. She’s genuinely thoughtful, always upbeat, and she’s also a registered nurse — which means caring for others isn’t just her job, it’s who she is.
On November 20, 2025, life changed for the Sorci family forever.
Brian suffered a severe stroke at home that left him paralyzed on his right side, with loss of speech (aphasia) and difficulty with understanding/communication (apraxia). Brian is now at home with Laurie under hospice care, and his health continues to decline as his kidneys deteriorate.
Along with the heartbreak has come real financial strain. Brian’s business has been deeply impacted, and Laurie has had to step away from work to care for him full-time. Right now, her biggest goal is simple: keep the family stable, support Brian’s care, and make sure Aidan and Carson can finish college.
We’re asking our community — especially the BCC family that has shared so many memories with the Sorcis — to help. Your donation will go directly toward: (1) helping Aidan and Carson with tuition and living expenses so they can complete college and (2) hospice care, medical expenses, and essential household costs.
If you can donate, thank you. If you can’t, please share — it truly helps more than people realize. And if you pray, please keep Brian, Laurie, Aidan and Carson in your prayers.
On behalf of the friends of the Sorci family: thank you for showing up for a family that has spent 20 years showing up for all of us.
