Help Sophomore AP Stars Get to New York City!
Donation protected
I teach at a low income, urban school, where over 80% of the students receive free or reduced lunch, meaning they live at or below the poverty level. This past school year I had a group of pre-AP sophomores, who were so engaged, so interested in literature, and so hardworking that each day they made teaching an absolute joy. They loved reading and analyzing plays, novels, and poems, and they’d say things—without a touch of sarcasm—like, “Miss, I really liked that writing prompt” or “Miss, John and I tried to watch Gladiator, but John kept interrupting and making connections to Macbeth.” The students constantly challenged themselves, reading SEVEN more books than were required on the sophomore curriculum. They were so amazing that they decided to take the AP Literature test 2 years early, basically on a dare. These students were determined, and they worked SO HARD. When the scores came in, almost half the class passed the test, and the others plan to take it again their senior year. To celebrate their success and hard work, this fundraiser will pay for their coach bus to New York City and for their dinner. Students will visit the Empire State Building and see the amazing play, Jagged Little Pill!
