Help Sophie Get the Dental Surgery She Needs
Donation protected
My sixth grade son is a HUGE animal lover. Each week, he spends several hours caring for, socializing, holding, petting, brushing and playing with kittens and/or cats who are looking for their forever homes.
Beginning in October of 2023, my son became involved with the Posh Pets Rescue organization. His initial involvement with Posh Pets came about after brainstorming possible incentives/motivators for him to do well on his academic/behavioral chart that was created at school. My son decided that helping cats would be the best reward for when he himself, did well in school. Meeting expectations of his teachers earned him points, and those points translated into real money from home. The money he earned was used to buy food, toys and essentials for the Posh Pets rescue cats.
Weekly donations turned in to my son's desire to work directly with cats needing homes. The Posh Pets Rescue organization helps both dogs and cats. Its headquarters is on Long Island and their satellite site for cats only is at the Petsmart in Greenburgh. Posh Pets also has many kittens/cats in foster as they wait for their forever home.
Last month, my son played an integral role in getting the sweetest little cat named Berry adopted. Berry was one of 58 cats rescued from a hoarding situation in Mount Vernon. Berry was taken in by Posh Pets who funded her initial medical care including shots and spaying.
A wonderful, senior woman living in an independent living facility in NJ was looking for a companion...my son's grandmother had spread the word to all of her neighbors that her grandson helps cats needing homes.
After meeting Berry through FaceTime, the adoption was set in to motion. My son did all of the shopping to make sure Berry would be set for the arrival to her new home. After an hour ride, and a little car sickness, Berry was home - and was given a new name - Sophie!
Sophie is thriving in her new home. She is gaining weight and becoming more confident each day. She is soooo affectionate and just pure joy. Sophie loves getting ear scratches, head rubs, eating Churu treats, running after her toys and relaxing by a sunny window. She is a dream!
However, there is one area that remains a big problem for Sophie and that is her mouth. Due to the terrible conditions she has was born in to and a poor diet, Sophie's teeth and gums are in bad shape. We were not anticipating the need for extensive dental surgery on a one year old cat... but it's needed to make her more comfortable and pain free.
My son asked if we could start a gofundme page to help offset the unexpected cost of Sophie's dental surgery. Sophie's owner/mom is providing her with wonderful care but needs support to get Sophie the dental care that she needs. Although we do not know the exact cost of surgery at this time, we know it will at minimum be $900. The surgery is scheduled for February 2025.
If you are able to assist by donating even the smallest amount - my son says Thank You!!!
Any money exceeding the cost of Sophie's dental work will go directly to Posh Pets Rescue. Resources to help these incredible animals are always needed and greatly appreciated.
Thank you again and again!
