Help Sophia raise funds for Cerebral Palsy surgery
Donation protected
My name is Sophia and I am trying to raise £4,500 to fund life changing surgery on my right foot.
I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at the age of two, and had numerous surgeries as a child to improve my mobility and lessen pain. My CP affects the right ride of my body, and causes problems with balance, flexibility, muscle tone, strength and pain.
Over the past year, my mobility has decreased to the point where I cannot work and am often unable to leave my home, and as a result, my mental health has suffered to the degree where I experienced a life threatening mental health crisis and spent a prolonged period of time in hospital. This has also exacerbated symptoms and behaviours relating to my diagnosis of anorexia nervosa, which I have suffered with since the age of 18. I am currently waiting on several referrals for NHS treatment to improve my quality of life, but because my condition affects multiple areas of my body (hips, knees, ankles and feet), I have no choice but to fund some procedures and equipment privately. In January 2024, I sustained an injury to my right foot, which has failed to heal and now requires surgery. The NHS waiting list for this procedure is over two years, and without it, I am currently unable to walk more than a few metres, even with a mobility aid which I funded myself. Despite having worked since the age of 21, I have only had two jobs where it has been possible for me to save anything at all, and as a result, I do not have the money needed to pay for the surgery. I hate having to ask for help, but I am in a desperate situation. I try so hard to remain positive, but every day brings a level of physical and mental torment that has become difficult to bear.
The money raised will be used to fund the surgery privately at a clinic in London, and although the recovery time will be long, it will have a transformative affect on my quality of life. Any amount you can give would mean the world to me. My goal is to be able to return to work and use my experiences to support others with physical disabilities and mental health difficulties. The research into this area is minimal at best, and I know that there are many people like myself who are faced with complex difficulties affecting both their physical and mental wellbeing. The sooner I can have the surgeries I need, the sooner I will be able to help others who are facing hardship.
Thank you.
