Sophia is a vibrant, loving, and kind 16-year-old with a passion for colorguard—both winter guard and marching band. Last April, she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia after doctors missed what would have been much easier to treat at a younger age. Since then, the treatment options and more complex diagnoses have piled on. In February, Sophia will be facing two separate surgeries: a PAO and labrum repair on her right leg, then two weeks later, a femoral, tibia/fibia osteotomy.

Sophia’s quality of life has been drastically impacted by pain, but she still shows up! She’s managed to stay part of colorguard as a captain and will have one last performance before she’s non-weight bearing for two months. Recovery will be extensive and challenging, lasting six months to a year, but Sophia is determined to heal so she can return to the marching field and have the best senior year possible. Sophia will miss extensive amounts of school while she’s recovering, and as a single mom, the mounting medical bills are becoming overwhelming.
