Anyone who has the joy of crossing paths with Sophia quickly understands she is the closest thing to an angel on earth. She is the definition of generosity and grace, somehow always making sure those around her are cared for before herself. There is no one that Sophia wouldn't lend a hand to — preparing food for her neighbors and church, donating clothes and gifts, and never missing a special occasion. Even in the face of the most difficult loss of her life when her son Shaquille passed away, Sophia never faltered or asked anyone for anything.

That is why it is particularly difficult to share that Sophia was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and is beginning to undergo treatment. Sophia has always supported herself, arriving in the U.S. as a single mom and working multiple jobs across the city to set up a life for herself. We feel optimistic that Soph will kick cancer's ass, but we also want to help her through an inevitable financial hardship due to the uncertainty of when she’ll be able to work.
