I am 43 years old. I am married and have 5 children between my husband and myself. We have always been the type of people to not ask for help, but in March when I began having some abdominal pain and bleeding when going to the bathroom I went to a GI doctor that did a colonoscopy. They woke me up and told my husband and I that they found a mass. He told us that it was Cancer and that he would send the biopsy to confirm. I was told that it was neuroendocrine cancer.
I was then sent to University Hospital head of oncology. He said that it was slow growing cancer and was contained. And he referred me to a surgeon. They scheduled surgery for early may. In the meantime they did more scans and the cancer had spread to my left adrenal gland. They sent me for a biopsy. Yes the cancer had spread. Then they sent me to a Neuroendocrine specialist. He scheduled chemo to start at the end of May. I did three days of chemo and 5 days of radiation on my colon. The radiation ended up closing my colon off with tremendous pain and the inability to go to the bathroom or eat or drink for over a week. I went to the ER and they sent me home with antibiotics be two days later the pain was worse, childbirth like pain and I ended up back in the hospital with a bowel perforation. I ended up being admitted to the hospital. My white blood cell count was too low
to have surgery. After 5 days they scheduled surgery and I ended up having a colostomy surgery. I went home. Three weeks later I started chemo again. After several Chemo treatments I had a CT scan to see how well the chemo was working. The CT scan showed that the cancer had progressed to two masses on my left adrenal gland and was now on my right adrenal gland and my liver. Innumerable lesions noted on my spine. The chemo was not working. The lesions in my spine were growing. An mri showed at I have multiple areas where I have bulging discs and nerves compressed causing increased pain. I went to another facility in Kentucky r a second opinion and they said to continue with my current treatment. Just this week I have had a third biopsy, a 3 hour mri of my spine and I started my first immunotherapy treatment. I go to have a radiation consult next week to see if they can do
radiation on my spine to see if that will help with controlling the pain.I have been unable to work since the end of May.
