This fundraiser is for Jigisha Gajera, lovingly known as Soniya, a 30-year-old woman whose life changed in an instant. Soniya has always been the pillar of strength for her family. After the heartbreaking loss of her younger brother at just 27 years old, she stood by her father’s side through his two-year battle with gastric cancer—becoming the sole provider and caregiver for her family during some of their darkest days. Despite enduring tremendous personal loss, she remained strong and never gave up.
Not long ago, Soniya came to the United States with dreams of building a brighter future. She worked part-time while saving and planning for her future, with hopes of one day becoming a cosmetologist. She believed deeply in second chances, in hope, and in creating a better life.
On April 4th, 2026, tragedy struck at a convenience store in Bossier, Louisiana. While simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Soniya was involved in a devastating gunshot accident. The bullet passed through her jaw, causing catastrophic injuries. She was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport, Louisiana, where medical teams worked tirelessly through critical hours to save her life. She survived—but her injuries are life-changing.
Today, Soniya is fighting for her life. She relies on artificial nutrition, breathes through a tracheostomy, and remains in critical condition. Simple things many of us take for granted—smiling, eating, speaking, and breathing freely—are no longer simple for her. Each has now become part of a long, painful, and uncertain recovery journey. Beyond the severe physical trauma, Soniya is facing immense emotional pain and overwhelming financial hardship. Far from home and without a strong local support system, she is enduring this battle with extraordinary courage and resilience.
Her recovery will require multiple complex reconstructive procedures, including jaw reconstruction, facial reconstruction, and dental implants. These urgent, life-changing surgeries and treatments are extensive and extraordinarily costly. The road ahead will be long and incredibly difficult—but with your support, she does not have to walk it alone.
