Hi, my name is Naomi, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my beloved mum, Sonia. She has always been the heart and soul of our family, radiating love and positivity to everyone she meets. However, nearly three years ago, life changed dramatically when she faced a severe health crisis that robbed her of her mobility and independence. Everyday tasks that most of us take for granted have become a constant struggle for her.

To help her regain her independence, Sonia urgently needs specialized physiotherapy. This therapy will be life-changing, helping to improve her mobility, strength, and overall quality of life. However, the costs of these therapy sessions, along with transportation and adaptive equipment, are beyond what our family can manage. We are aiming to raise £10,000 to cover these expenses.

**Sonia’s Story**

After an amazing holiday in Gambia, with myself and my sister, just two days after returning home, Mum collapsed at work. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered she had suffered an aortic dissection – a tear in one of her main arteries. While the emergency surgery saved her life, it tragically caused a spinal stroke and a brain injury, leaving her unable to walk and bound to a wheelchair with no muscle memory to move her legs.

It was a long, uphill battle to bring her to where she is today. Sonia spent almost six weeks in ICU and five months in the hospital.

In those traumatising six weeks, eight different consultants urged my siblings and I to consider end-of-life care, telling us she wouldn’t have a life worth living and that if she comes around she would probably be in a vegetative state. Being brought up knowing there is a higher power we chose faith over fear, and Sonia is here today proving that there is a god, miracles do happen and odds can be beaten.

When she awoke from the constant sedation we gradually helped her regain movement in her arms. Unfortunately, her NHS physiotherapy sessions didn’t focus enough on her legs, and we now need specialised care to help her walk again.

We focus daily on strengthening her upper body and her core strength has come on leaps and bounds but with the right help we hope to see the same progress in her lower limbs.
