Hi, my name is Jessie and I am raising funds for my good friend.
This is the story of Sonia Milano. A 49-year-old vibrant woman who is energetic and loves life. Her story goes like this…….
In March 2017 Sonia began to have pain in her lower back. As time went on, it progressively got worse to the point that painkillers no longer worked. An MRI revealed some disc tension, but as time went on, the pain got worse. After many visits to the doctors there was no
relief. In June 2018 Sonia woke up to a large lump on the side of her neck. Her doctor ordered an ultrasound. It revealed some activity in
the lymph nodes. From August – November 2017, she struggled with extreme fatigue & fever. All bloodwork appeared normal.
On December 10th, 2018 she woke up with a swollen leg. She could not even get herself out of bed. She ended up at the emergency. After going through a CT scan & MRI, she was told that her lymph nodes were abnormal. She was forced to stop working & take care of herself. Stuck in that hospital emergency room, all she could think about was her kids. She underwent a spinal tap & a bone marrow biopsy. All
results were clean. She was a medical mystery. The lymph node in her neck was removed & she was sent home. She was readmitted 4
days later with extreme fatigue and abdominal pain.
This time, the CT scan confirmed stage 4 Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma. She immediately started 2 months of radiation. In September
2019 Sonia was told she was in remission. This was fantastic news! She slowly went back to her normal routine.
In March 2021 she started experiencing severe headaches, disorientation & severe pain in her left leg. Sonia was back at the hospital.
She relapsed, only this time it metastasized to her brain and spinal cord. Only 10% of patients in remission relapse this way. She began 6
intense chemo treatments. (every 3 weeks with a 7-day hospital stay). This was her 2nd diagnosis in less than 2 years. She was devastated.
She is now undergoing these chemo treatments & needs injections & medications. After finishing her treatments, Sonia will undergo a stem cell transplant. This requires a 4–6-week hospital stay where she must be incubated.
Sonia is a single mom of 2 kids in school & no child support. She is alone to fight this uphill battle.
In March 2021, her insurance cut her off. With medications to buy & no money coming in, it is starting to take its toll. No one should have to go through this & worry about the financial burden. Please help Sonia. We can alleviate some of the stress by donating. There is
strength in numbers. Thank you.
Sonia, we love you and you are not alone in this.
