Help Somali mothers learn to drive

Donation protected
I am part of the Somali Empowerment Circle (The Circle), which is a group that grew out of in-person conversations among many Somali women living in the Tri-County area, buoyed by passion for grass roots organizing,

The simple agenda was to galvanize, empower and mobilize Somali women by creating a space that brings Somali women together to meet, connect and share successes and to support each other.

To create a platform to get the knowledge, support and effective life skills that promotes healthy behaviors, personal well-being and fulfillment. And to engage in smart and mindful conversations about family, work, other issues and leadership capabilities

Our first initiative is to help 10 Somali single mothers obtain their driver's license.

The help a former refugee learn to drive project is our model of knowledge diffusion and a way to address the huge task that we face in starting our lives afresh in America.

By not driving in Oregon, we have extra challenges simply getting around-getting to job interview, appointments, or even the shops.

The project is ultimately about creating transportation solutions for a thriving Oregon and a significant safety initiative.

Your donations will help me cover the total cost for 10 women to learn how to drive and obtain an Oregon dirver license from a culturally and linguistically appropirate professional driver's education company called HORIZON DRIVER EDUCATION LLC. The money raised from this compaign, I will be paying Horizon Driver Education LLC for their services. The cost per woman is $450. They will have 120 hours of supervised driving practice before sitting the test to obtain their driver’s license.

Somali women who meet the below eligibility criteria can apply to participate in the program and me and The Empowerment Circle will choose the 10 with the highest need.
