Sokhara and Chakra have been evicted from her property, an American Cambodian oasis on Clove Creek that included their home and her business, Nice & Neat Dry Cleaners. In 2019, Sokhara met someone through a trusted family friend who offered to buy their property, relieve them of mortgage payments, and allow them to remain as caretakers for as long as they wished. Tragically, this promise turned into deceit and manipulation, resulting in the catastrophic loss of their home and business. After years of hard work they lost most of their possessions and livelihood. Chakra, received his second kidney transplant and returned home the day before the eviction. Now, the couple is staying with Sokhara's daughter in East Hartford, Connecticut, trying to start over from nothing. The funds raised will help them cover medical and legal expenses and support them as they rebuild their lives. Chakra shared a note expressing their feelings: "As time goes by, more than a week after the eviction and more than a week after the Columbia Hospital discharged me for the kidney transplant, I begin to gain senses of my life's reality. All my time living in the United States, I constantly get the feeling of missing my beloved homeland. And now, I experience the feeling of missing my Cold Spring home and my beautiful garden--hopeless, helpless, miserable, empty!! The dark feeling shows up in Sokhara's activities. I can feel her pain and frustration even though she doesn't say anything. For both of us, beside the good feeling of having my new kidney is the sad, and frustration is beyond the words we could describe now." Sokhara and Chakra need our help now. In this season of giving, please donate what you can to help them. Please also share your stories about them and encouragement too. Hearing from you will lighten their days as they struggle to build a new life once again.
