Hi everyone! My name is Sohila Abdellatif, and I’m currently a senior at Texas State University studying Theater. For my senior project, I’m directing Mojada by Luis Alfaro, a modern adaptation of the classic play Medea.

Mojada follows an undocumented family as they struggle to assimilate into life in America, focusing on Medea, the mother, and her journey of isolation and abandonment.

I believe this story is incredibly important to share, especially given the political climate we live in today. Latinx stories deserve to be told, particularly those that shed light on the challenges, battles, and resilience that come with crossing borders.

I’m asking for $1,100 to bring this story to life. Every dollar donated will go toward production rights, set materials, props, and costumes. Any extra funds will be donated to the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC), an organization that supports people affected by immigration raids and border crossings.

The ILRC is a national nonprofit that provides immigration legal training, technical assistance, and educational materials to support undocumented individuals. They also advocate at the local, state, and federal levels to ensure that policies impacting immigrant communities are fair and just.

¡Hola a todos! Mi nombre es Sohila Abdellatif y actualmente soy estudiante de último año en la Universidad Estatal de Texas, donde estudió Teatro. Para mi proyecto de titulación, estoy dirigiendo Mojada de Luis Alfaro, una adaptación moderna de la obra clásica Medea.

Mojada sigue a una familia indocumentada que lucha por asimilarse a la vida en Estados Unidos, centrándose en Medea, la madre, y su viaje de aislamiento y abandono.

Creo que esta historia es increíblemente importante de compartir, especialmente dado el clima político en el que vivimos hoy. Las historias de latine merecen ser contadas, especialmente aquellas que muestran los desafíos, las luchas y la resiliencia que conlleva cruzar fronteras.

Estoy solicitando $1,100 para poder realizar esta puesta en escena. Cada dólar donado se destinará a los derechos de producción, materiales para la escenografía, utilería y vestuario. Cualquier fondo adicional será donado al Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC), una organización que apoya a las personas afectadas por redadas migratorias y cruces fronterizos.

El ILRC es una organización sin fines de lucro a nivel nacional que ofrece capacitación legal, asistencia técnica y materiales educativos para apoyar a las personas indocumentadas. También abogan a nivel local, estatal y federal para garantizar que las políticas que afectan a las comunidades inmigrantes sean justas y humanas.
