The past year has been incredibly tough for Sohail. At first it was being nauseous and vomiting, but soon Sohail got many heavy headaches and he felt like he had no energy at all. Almost a year later, Sohail had an MRI scan and it showed he had a brain tumor. Sohail lives in Afghanistan, there is no health insurance there and his family has to pay for everything themselves.
The treatment for Medulloblastoma has 85% chance to be effective, but it cannot be performed in Afghanistan. There are no facilities to treat this type of cancer in Afghanistan. If Sohail is not treated, there is almost no chance of survival and he probably will not make it to 2022.

I had received dozens of his reports in the past few months and none of them pointing towards the cause of his symptoms. I was expecting this one to be similar however this piece of paper changed our lives forever. The neurologist said that my son has medulloblastoma. It is an aggressive form of brain cancer that arises in the lower rear part of the brain.
Towards the start of the year 2020, Suhail started complaining of being nauseous and loss of appetite. Soon, he started throwing up and usually in the morning. We took him to a doctor who advised some tests, but the reports didn’t give a substantial reason for his symptoms. The doctor prescribed some medicines however they didn’t help much. Sohails doctor was changed, he got more tests, more medicines, however none curing his symptoms effectively. Meanwhile, Suhail had lost a lot of weight and was mostly feeling fatigued. He also started complaining of feeling dizzy and losing his balance at times. That is when his doctor advised a brain MRI and asked us to take him to a neurologist. When we got back the MRI our lives changed, we found out Sohail had cancer in his brain.
As a next step, brain surgery was performed to remove the cancerous tumor and a sample was sent for biopsy. The biopsy revealed that it is Grade IV cancer which spreads faster and has a higher chance of relapse as well. For treatment, my son has to go through both radiotherapy and chemotherapy. He will also be needed to be monitored his entire life due to the higher relapse rate of medulloblastoma.
My son is still a child, his life hasn’t even properly started yet. I want to do everything in my power to save my son and give him a chance at life that he deserves however my resources are limited. His surgery was very expensive and I used almost all my savings on that. Another challenge that I am facing is, being unable to get my son admitted to a cancer hospital that will treat his type of cancer effectively. Where I live, there are no options available. Someone told me about a facility in Germany that can treat my son, however the expected cost is €70,000.
