Our friend Sofija is a 6th year medical student at the 2nd Faculty of the Charles University in Prague. They are a queer immigrant from Belarus, half Serbian. Whilst studying for their medical degree they have for the past two years been also working as an awareness and first aid professional in underground clubs and festivals, providing care to people and co-running a harm reduction and first aid programme that trains nightlife workers in harm reduction and first aid.
Despite dealing with chronic pain, they have managed to continue their studies and work alongside it helping people and further educate themselves through volunteer programmes on both event and disaster medicine.
They now found themselves in a dire situation where they have an issue with their tooth that is very painful and needs treatment that is only partially covered by foreigner insurance. We are looking to help fund their root canal treatment so that they can get their tooth fixed before final state exams in June. If this is delayed or not done they are at risk of complications that their hypermobile body will have a very hard time fighting.
The insurance covers the appointment and anaesthesia but not the treatment itself which is 12 400Kč ($600).
The money they saved up for this month to not work a month before exams would now be spent on this treatment and they would not be able to pay their rent. So we ask for your donation to help them be able to get the treatment and have the space to finish their degree to continue to service marginalised communities as a doctor.
Thank you for considering, the distribution of the funds for the treatment will be published.
