Hello! My name is Sofi, and I'm currently a student at Duke University. When I was 15, I lived through the Oxford High School 2021 school shooting. The experience left a lasting impact on my life, and while I have spent years in therapy and treatment making positive improvements, I still face daily challenges. Being in public spaces or new environments often triggers panic attacks, especially when I encounter strangers or loud noises. Night terrors and anxiety continue to affect my sense of safety and well-being. Being out of state has proven itself to be more of a challenge than I had previously expected due to the city surroundings.

After much consideration, I have decided to pursue training a PTSD service animal. This companion will be specially trained to help ground me during panic attacks, deescalate overwhelming situations, and provide comfort during night terrors. The presence of a service animal will make a significant difference in my ability to navigate daily life and regain a sense of independence and peace.

All funds raised will go directly toward the training costs for the service animal, including startup trainings, materials, vet care, and emergency needs. I am fortunate to have a job that allows me to support an animal long-term, but the upfront costs of specialized training programs are a challenge.
