Help Sofi Get Facial Feminization Surgery

Hi, my name is Sofi and I am a afro-Puerto Rican and Dominican transgender woman. After several attempts over the past year to try and get my insurance to cover my FFS and being denied over and over again, I have finally found an alternative cost effective route in Mexico, with a date set in January!

I'm in school and have been working two jobs to cover my bills and put away a little bit at a time. Over a few months I've been able to save enough for the $2,100 deposit. However, I still need $13,763 to cover the remaining surgery fees, and another $800 - $1,000 for plane tickets for both my partner and I. The plan is to work both my jobs for the next few months to save as much as possible to cover tickets, some of the surgical costs, and bills during the months I cannot work during recovery.

A bit of my background: I started my social and medical transition in Florida right as the laws and discrimination turned worse. I was fortunate to escape and seek sanctuary in New Mexico two years ago. When I moved here I found a decent paying job but faced racism and transphobia and got fired. It took me some time to find a low paying entry level job where I do not face discrimination, however I was forced to take a second job as a server to cover my basic expenses. Recently, as the political climate has continued to worsen, I have experienced racism and transphobia and constant discrimination at my serving job. This has dramatically increased my dysphoria. This has made it difficult to look in the mirror and even go outside to do anything. I have struggled at times to even want to be in social gatherings with friends for fear of being clocked.

This surgery is life saving for me , not just because I will feel safe as the political climate becomes worse for trans folks, but also to continue to explore, grow, experience joy, and want to continue to stay alive in my future.

While being trans is a big part of my identity, there's a lot more to me :) I love to workout, play with my doggy and read philosophy, political theory, and classical works. I enjoy spending my free time with my partner and close friends. I find joy in doing my makeup, self care, and getting my nails done. I love goth darkwave music shows, watching cinema, and I am currently studying to be a therapist so that I can help other queer/trans folks on their journey. Furthermore, I love to be active in the community and volunteer for a variety of meaningful events when I have time.
