Snowpe is suddenly blind.

Snowpe was brought to the UK from China by ALL DOGS MATTER. She was rescued from the floor of a slaughterhouse in 2019, flown to Paris & driven to London with a group of 4 other rescue dogs.

Her new owner K and she met on 4 November 2019 and the spark of connection and trust was instantaneous. She was brought into her ‘forever’ home by her rookie but adoring dog owner, where Snowpe settled quickly & enjoyed rigorous & fun training, long walks & many adventures. To guess her age … she was about 2 when she was rescued- as she never displayed puppyish behaviour and has always been calm, attentive and a joyously quick learner. After four years, in January 2024, Snowpe developed a cataract in her left eye (The pictures show the decline in Snowpe's eyesight over time). She was banging into recycle bins on the footpath and extra care had to be taken while on walks. Bright light & dark spaces confused her & one day she walked directly into the canal- probably assuming it was a dark path. She developed another cataract in the other eye and is now totally blind.

A cataract is an easily fixable (if expensive) condition as her vet has confirmed.

Snowpe was pretty confused & hesitant at first - but with training she has learned her new most important instruction ‘STOP’ - so can stop on a dime. She’s learnt ‘go left’, ‘go right’, ‘kerb’, ‘steps’ & ‘back up’ - for when she finds herself in a tight spot. She has adapted - but it would be so wonderful to restore her independence and confidence by restoring her sight at least to just one eye.

She used to be a dog who would somehow recognise and approach people who were having a low day and her proximity and request for a gentle pat would offer them ease and uplift them a bit. Now she seems unable to pick these people out.

A cataract removal’s operation is quoted as starting at £3000 for one eye.
