Help Smores Breathe Easy: Fund Her CT Scan

Hi, my name is Maria and this fluff ball with the brightest blue eyes I’ve ever seen is my soulmate, Smores.

Growing up, my family always had cats, but last year, while I was living in Shanghai, I wanted one of my own. I searched through social media hoping to find the one meant for me, and then I saw her. Smores' previous owner was moving and looking to rehome her. From the start, something felt off. When I met her in person, my heart broke. She was filthy, like she’d been in a chimney, with eye discharge, a rash on her nose, and a fearful look in her eyes. I learned her owner had been “flicking” her nose as a form of punishment. She wasn’t loved or properly cared for.

The moment I saw her, I said, “She looks like a toasted marshmallow.” She was dirty from neglect, but her fluffy white and brown fur made her look just like a s’more, and that’s how she got her name, Smores. Despite everything, she came to me right away. She chose me. And I knew I had to give her the love, safety, and comfort she never had. Over the past year, we’ve become inseparable.

Smores has always had respiratory issues. She was diagnosed with asthma in Shanghai, and even now that we’re back in the U.S., her breathing hasn’t improved. I’ve taken her to multiple vets, and the specialist we’re currently seeing strongly recommends a CT scan to get to the root of the issue.

The problem is: I lost my job and I'm still struggling to find work. Vet bills have been incredibly difficult to keep up with. Between exams, tests, and her daily asthma inhaler, I’m doing everything I can. But the CT scan is estimated to cost over $7,000, and I’ve had to keep pushing it back because I simply can’t afford it right now.

Smores has already been through so much. I just want to give her the healthy, happy life she deserves and figure out what’s going on with her before it gets worse.
