Hi my name is Beck and I’m trying to raise money to help cover the costs of the veterinary care for my very special little lorikeet named “Smol Bird”.

I have had Smol Bird since she was a baby. She is now almost 4 years old. Generally she is a very outgoing, loud, funny and entertaining creature to be around. She has 8 other parrot friends at home. All of which are given the absolute best care possible.

Smol bird has been unwell for about a week now.. I tried using local vets but unfortunately this specific case requires the help of a specialised avian vet. So we had to travel to Brisbane to see one. Which we did. On the 15th of Feb we got in the car at 4am and drove all the way to Brisbane to see the Unusual Pet Vets. Since then, we have been running tests to try and find out what could possibly be causing Smol Bird to be unwell.

Symptoms include, lethargy, regurgitation, breathing issues and just not acting as she normally would.

Tests we have run so far include, blood tests, standing X-rays, sedated X-rays, gram stain and a crop wash.

So far we have not found the cause but have found some further information.

Smol bird is missing a lot of healthy bacteria from her digestive system. This indicates that something has been killing it off. Something which may be an infection or toxicity. On her X-rays we have found that part of her stomach and intestines are very enlarged which is causing her organs to press on her respiratory system and making it harder for her to breathe.

as you could imagine the long travel for such an event as well as the accomodation for myself to stay close to Smol bird, the emergency consultation, all of these tests and hospitalisation fees have added up very quickly. I am reaching out and asking for any help we can get to cover the costs of this unpredictable matter. It is so important to me that smol bird recovers from this illness as soon as possible. She is being so strong for me so far and I am praying she can pull through. It’s breaking my heart to see her so unwell. She really is such a fun loving creature and I would do anything to keep her happy and healthy. Any small donation is so greatly appreciated.
