Hello guys,
With heavy heart, I am creating this gofundme campaign to raise the funds for treatment of my best friend, Smokey.
Smokey is a shy and lovely cat that loves snuggles once he gets to know you. He is a happy and playful Persian cat and he especially loves to spend time around kids. When he is not laying next to me, he is usually on his cat tower in my living room, watching the dog park across the street. When it is warm and sunny out, Smokey loves to go out for walks (well, he comfortably sits on my shoulder and enjoys people petting him, while I do all the walking)
Several years back, I noticed a small dark spot on his left eye and once I realized that it is growing, I took Smokey to an eye specialist. I was told that it is not uncommon with cats and if it the dark spot continues it's growth, we can take further steps. Honestly, the doctor convinced me that it is highly likely benign melanoma and I had nothing to worry about. This week, we have seen a different eye specialist since the dark spot has covered his eye completely, and the news I received was very different than the previous one.
It more looks like a malignant tumor now, and unfortunately, another dark spot appeared on his right eye and started growing as well. While a malignant eye tumor does not spread to other parts of the cat, it is slowly killing Smokey. I have several options including a biopsy and removal of his eyes. Costs for these procedures are unfortunately unbelievably high in Canada. Smokey has a loving home and I am totally fine with him even losing both his eyes. All we need is him to be healthy and tumor-free. I am prepared to make changes in the household to make it more "blind cat" friendly.
I often say that "Smokey is the love of my life" and I mean it. I have moved to Canada in 2010, all alone, and Smokey is the only family I have in my reach when I need a hug. I can't imagine life without him, I am scared to death, and hoping to raise the funds to provide him the medical treatment he needs.
The required amount for all the procedures is not clear at the moment. We have an appointment for surgery on April 28, this operation with the cost included biopsy would be around $6500. If we need the right eye to be removed as well, It will be between $2500 and $3500 for the operation and potentially $3000 for the biopsy of the right eye. This calculation does not include our visits to the clinic and "potential complications" and/or additional medication that might be needed. I have already spent over $1000 for eye drops, clinic and eye specialist visits for his left eye.
I am hoping that with some support from the community, I can make sure for Smokey to get proper treatment. I am not expecting entire cost to be covered via gofundme but pandemic has greatly reduced my income and I am unable to handle it myself, alone. Any funds raised on this platform that is not used for Smokey's treatment, will be used to buy food for starving stray dogs and cats in Turkey, and I will be providing proof of all purchases.
