update, Smoke passed away.

Hello! I’m raising funds to help Smoke get the eye surgery he needs. Smoke was born on May 21, 2025. We found out that he had a bad eye infection on July 10th so we decided we better pick him up to ensure he got the care he needed. These kittens were living in atrocious living conditions so we decided to also adopt his sister since we had space for two. When we arrived to get him, 2.5 hours from our home, the situation was much worse than we were aware, and his sister was sick too. We brought them home anyway, then on July 12th my son and I took these precious kitties to the 24 hour clinic close to our home. We then learned that Smoke will need to have his eye removed to survive because he was without the care he needed previously to take care of the infection. Another result of the very poor living conditions was that

Smoke weighed 1/3 of what he would for his age and that his sister only weighed half of what she should. It is clear that the mother of these two should be spayed and I will work with the owner to ensure this happens. The good news is that both kitties are playful and happy. We have started both kitties on nutritious appropriate food and they are eating it up! Both kitties have already started bonding with our family. They are very loving and lovable kitties.

So that is why I’m asking for help, we can help Smoke and we can pay for some of what he needs, but my family needs partners in this.

The next step is a follow up visit in a week. Smoke and Penelope are both already on antibiotics. I expect to schedule the removal of Smoke’s eye next week. I expect Penelope will not need further care. Both kitties will be spayed and nurtured as appropriate when then are the correct age and they will have homes with our family.
