Jay Smith a.k.a Smitty Kingston!!
To quote Aerosmith- Dream On
“Yeah, I know nobody knows,
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win”
To reference this song, you must first know the story behind it. “It is about the hunger to be somebody: Dream until your dreams come true”.
What is the dream? Each persons different than the next, and how we think of them is also different than that of another persons.
Recently my good friend had the chance of living out one of his biggest dreams. A dream that many talented musicians never have the chance of living out. Our friend Jay “Smitty” Smith had the opportunity of taking his act down to Nashville, Tennessee, or as many know it as, “Music City”. While down there, Smitty had the weekend of a lifetime, performing over 6 gigs, and playing many of the cities famous venues. And from the videos, he fit right in. It was as if it were his coming out party, or that it was just fate that brought him to the city that produces so many great talents. Whichever it was, there was a positive feeling about the weekend. A realization that it’s never too late to chase after something you’ve always wanted in your life.
I wish I were there to see all of the amazing performances, and I felt as if I was, thanks to all of the social media updates! But as many of us have, we’ve had the opportunity to take in a great Smitty show, be it at JAKK Tuesday’s, Jack Astors, or at his famous Sunday BRASS shows. We have all sang along, yelled out requests and enjoyed every second of his talent.
Why am I writing this? I am writing this because I am a fan, a friend, and a believer that all people deserve a chance, especially the good ones. There’s not many like Jay (Smitty); a great father, a great husband, friend, and performer. He has worked very hard to perform in the venues here in the city of Kingston, and in the ones he travels to. He’s a natural in doing what he loves, and that’s performing, teaching, and writing music! Where else other than Nashville, Tennessee would allow for someone to live out that dream? Where else could someone be in the middle of the action; perform, write, record and connect?
This page is being created in the hopes that we can make this dream come true, and be a part of the journey of our friend. This page is being made in the hopes of raising funds to help Smitty get down to Nashville, into studios, into Honkey Tonks, and into our car radios sooner than later because it will happen. So let’s make it happen! Remember where it all began, and remember where you were when you heard him first! Let’s give the world that same chance of hearing his amazing talent!
