Help SMART Go to the State Championship!
Donation protected
UPDATE: THANK YOU!!
We appreciate all of the donations and funding we’ve received to help get our team to the state championship and beyond. Your generous donations will help sustain our team now and in the future.
The Smoky Mountain Academic Robotics Team (SMART) has earned a spot in the FIRST North Carolina State Championships!
They need help to get there. Registration, transportation, lodging, and food for the team will cost about $9000. Amy amount you can give will help!
SMART brought home the Impact Award at the Mecklenberg District FIRST Robotics Competition event March 22-24 and will advance to the NC state championship at East Carolina University April 5-7.
The Impact Award is the most pretigious award at FIRST, honoring the team that best embodies the mission of FIRST, representing a model for other teams to emulate. The award was created to highlight the goals of FIRST Robotics Competition to encourage more youth to become science and technology leaders, transforming the culture to inspire greater respect and honor for science and technology.
SMART (Team #6932) is the only FIRST Robotics Competition Team west of Haywood County. Established in 2017, the team consists of high school students from Smoky Mountain High School and Jackson County Early College. They were chosen for this award because of their commitment to sharing a love of STEM through summer day camps for K-12 students, robotics demonstrations, outreach events, developing and mentoring new teams throughout WNC, and building community partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and educational institutions. Through their efforts, SMART has engaged hundreds of kids across WNC in STEM learning and initiatives over the years.
These kids are amazing, inspiring, and the future leaders we need. Please help us get them to the state competition to represent our mountain region and show (as the team motto says) that we're SMART not DUMB (Don't Underestimate Mountain Builders)!
Members of SMART do not pay to be a part of the team. All of their outreach and work is paid for through donations and local sponsors. You can be a part of this DUMB effort!
