Help Small Businesses in PR
Donation protected
As part of our immediate disaster response efforts after Hurricane Maria, Foundation for Puerto Rico (FPR) organized relief missions to almost all municipalities and noticed that many small businesses were closed or practically inoperative.
We sat down with business owners and listened to their stories on their difficulties to keep their lights on and doors open. Many of them had no hope of opening again, while others struggled to barely survive. One of our grantees had flooding so bad that they lost everything - except the will to keep going.
We knew we had to help, so FPR developed a Small Business Cash Grant program within weeks of the hurricane, helping businesses get back on their feet. The program provided a cash grant of up to $5,000, along with business coaching support to businesses in targeted areas.
The results of our program blew our targets out of the water. FEMA estimates that after a disaster, between 40%-60% of small business close. The close rate for the business supported by our program was only 7%.
FPR has secured funding to expand the program to over 24 communities, impacting over 300 businesses. However, we need to raise $240,000 to provide cash grants to help struggling businesses. Targeted businesses will receive a cash grant, as well as technical assistance and business coaching support to help them grow their business and be able to not only survive, but thrive.
We have a proven program that works and this cash grant funding is crucial for its success. Your donation will help Puerto Rico recover and become more resilient.
