Help Skyelar Pedal Toward Independence

Meet our girl Skyelar. Skyelar is 17 years old from Emmaus, Pennsylvania. When she was just 8 weeks old, she was a victim of child abuse, needing two craniotomies before the age of 1. She was left with lifelong disabilities, including Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, and IDD. In 2019, Skyelar underwent 19 procedures to assist with her mobility and improve her quality of life. Extensive rehab was needed to help her walk, but Skyelar has never let that stop her from being everything she can be. She spends her free time volunteering and throws javelin for her high school’s Unified Track and Field team, which was just invited to compete in the league championship!

Skyelar has also participated in the Pennsylvania Miss Amazing Pageant since 2019. This year, she was invited to represent Washington DC as Miss Amazing Teen Queen 2025, traveling to Chicago for Nationals. Skyelar may be our fearless leader, but she isn’t without limits. Walking is getting harder, and her Cerebral Palsy symptoms are showing more frequently, making movement more difficult. She attends physical and occupational therapy multiple times a week and receives botox every three months, but it simply isn’t enough.

Skyelar is in need of a new bike. For her, a Rifton R140 is not a want, but a need. With an upcoming neurosurgery in talks, Skyelar will need more intense rehab, and we want to keep this as “in home” as possible. Cycling promotes reciprocal leg motion patterning, similar to walking, which can improve her overall gross motor function. It helps strengthen her lower extremity and core muscles, improves cardiovascular fitness, and develops core stability, balance, and visual-motor coordination. The trike would also allow Skyelar to ride alongside her family, fostering socialization, inclusion, and friendships outside of a clinical setting.

We are asking for your support to help Skyelar get the therapy bike she needs. Any donation or share will make a difference in her journey. Thank you for helping us keep Skyelar pedaling on!
