My name is Skye. I'm a 25-year-old disabled transfem woman, and I am struggling to tread water with medical bills piling up. I'm currently over $5,000 in medical debt, and it's becoming too hard to maintain with other bills coming in. My physical strength is failing thanks to PNES, EDS, and ME/CFS, which have all sent me to the ER 10 times in the last year. It's hard for me to even be outside, as my PNES is photosensitive in nature, assuming that EDS and ME/CFS flare-ups even let me go down the stairs on any given day. To top it all off, I recently lost the ability to speak. I physically cannot use my voice beyond a strained whisper for at most 15 minutes per day. I'm living off of food banks right now just so I can spend the last bits of cash that I have on expensive copays while I wait on my SSI and SNAP applications to come back. I don't remember the last time I was able to go to the grocery store and fill an entire cart with food.
