Hi, my name is Terry, and I’m creating this GoFundMe for my neighbor, who I love and have grown to love very much, and who I consider like a daughter to me, and for her sweet rescue dog, Skye.
Just 2 1/2 months ago, she adopted Skye through Welcome Home Sanctuary Rescue in San Francisco. Skye had been found roaming the streets of Salinas, scared and alone. After being spayed and microchipped, she was placed in foster care to heal. When her foster mom had a family emergency, my neighbor got a call asking if she could temporarily take Skye in. Of course, she said yes, and that decision changed everything.
At first, Skye was terrified and defensive. She wouldn’t let my neighbor touch her and even tried to bite when she was first brought home. But with patience, love, and care, Skye slowly learned to trust. Today, she and my neighbor share an incredible bond, they’ve traveled together, spend nearly every day side by side, and Skye is truly part of the family.
Because my neighbor wanted to do everything right for Skye, she immediately got her pet insurance. But on August 10th, Skye suddenly began limping on her back leg. When she didn’t improve, she was taken to the vet, where x-rays and exams revealed the heartbreaking news: Skye has luxating patellas in both back legs. This means her kneecaps slip out of place, causing her pain and limiting her mobility. Surgery is the only option to give her a pain-free life.
The cost of surgery for both legs is estimated between $9,319.85 and $11,667.21. On top of this, my neighbor has already spent $1,108.10 on x-rays, $234 for the orthopedic specialist, and $190 for a second opinion. Despite having insurance, her claims have been denied because the condition is being labeled “pre-existing.”
I’ve also had the joy of dog-sitting Skye, and I can say firsthand that she is such a special dog. She’s sweet, loving, and incredibly resilient for everything she’s been through. I’ve grown to have a bond with her too, and I know how much she means not only to my neighbor, who loves her like family, but to everyone who has met her.
That’s why I’m asking for help on their behalf. I am looking to raise $3,200 to help cover some of the cost of Skye’s surgery and care. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward Skye’s medical expenses and recovery. If you aren’t able to donate, sharing this fundraiser will also make a huge difference.
Thank you for helping me support my neighbor, who I love dearly and consider like a daughter to me, and her sweet Skye, so this special dog can have the happy, healthy life she deserves.
